Introduction

Managing serialized inventory often requires generating unique serial numbers for multiple items quickly and accurately. Serial Number Generator Pro for Zoho Inventory simplifies this process by allowing you to generate multiple serial numbers instantly with customizable formats.

With this extension, you can create random or sequential serial numbers, apply custom prefixes and suffixes, choose numeric or alphanumeric formats, and generate serial numbers in bulk. The generated serial numbers can then be copied instantly or exported as a TXT file for use in your inventory transactions, labeling, or product tracking.

The extension works across Zoho Inventory screens, allowing you to quickly generate serial numbers whenever needed during inventory operations.

Prerequisites

Before installing the extension, ensure the following requirements are met:

  • An active Zoho Inventory organization under a supported plan.

  • Serial number tracking enabled in your Item Preferences within Zoho Inventory.

Setting Up the Extension

Follow these steps to install the Serial Number Generator Pro extension:

  1. Log in to your Zoho Inventory account.

  2. Open a new browser tab and navigate to the Serial Number Generator Pro page on Zoho Marketplace.

  3. Click Install in the top-right corner of the page.

  4. If this is your first Marketplace installation, review and accept the Zoho Marketplace terms and conditions.

  5. Select the Zoho Inventory organization where you want to install the extension.

  6. Review and accept the extension’s permissions.

  7. Click Install Extension to complete the installation.

Once the installation is complete, the extension will be available within your Zoho Inventory interface and can be accessed whenever serial numbers need to be generated.

How the Extension Works

Serial Number Generator Pro allows you to create serial numbers based on customizable parameters.

You can define:

  • Prefix – A text value added at the beginning of the serial number.

  • Suffix – A text value appended at the end.

  • Generation Mode – Choose between Random or Sequential generation.

  • Character Type – Select Alphanumeric or Numeric-only serial numbers.

  • Length – Specify the number of characters for random serial numbers.

  • Start Number – Define the starting value for sequential serial numbers.

  • Quantity – Number of serial numbers to generate.

Once generated, the serial numbers are displayed in a structured list that can be:

  • Copied directly to clipboard

  • Exported as a TXT file

This makes it easy to apply serial numbers during stock management or product labeling.

Generating Serial Numbers

To generate serial numbers using the extension:

  1. Log in to your Zoho Inventory organization.

  2. Access the Serial Number Generator tool from the extension panel.

  3. Enter your preferred configuration:

    • Prefix (optional)

    • Suffix (optional)

    • Generation mode (Random or Sequential)

    • Character type (Alphanumeric or Numeric)

    • Length or Starting Number

    • Quantity of serial numbers required

  4. Click Generate Serial Numbers.

The extension will instantly generate the requested serial numbers and display them in the results section.

You can then:

  • Click Copy to copy all serial numbers to your clipboard.

  • Click Export TXT to download the generated serial numbers as a text file.

These serial numbers can then be used within Zoho Inventory transactions or applied to physical products for tracking purposes.




Example Use Case

Suppose you need to generate serial numbers for 10 new items in your inventory.

Configuration could be:

  • Prefix: PRD-

  • Generation Mode: Sequential

  • Start Number: 1001

  • Quantity: 10

The extension will generate:

PRD-1001
PRD-1002
PRD-1003
PRD-1004
PRD-1005
PRD-1006
PRD-1007
PRD-1008
PRD-1009
PRD-1010

These serial numbers can be copied or exported and used for inventory tracking or labeling.


Removing the Extension

To uninstall Serial Number Generator Pro:

  1. Log in to your Zoho Inventory account.

  2. Navigate to Settings (gear icon).

  3. Go to Marketplace > Installed Extensions.

  4. Locate Serial Number Generator Pro and click View Details.

  5. Click Uninstall in the top-right corner.

  6. Confirm your selection to remove the extension.

The extension will then be removed from your Zoho Inventory organization.
